The Story

This specimen features a genuine Orthoceras, an extinct genus of "straight-shelled" cephalopods that inhabited the ancient oceans during the Devonian period, approximately 400 million years ago. As a relative of the modern squid and octopus, the Orthoceras lived within a long, conical shell divided into internal chambers, utilizing a sophisticated buoyancy system to navigate its environment. These fossils are recovered from the Atlas Mountain Range in Southern Morocco and have been meticulously polished to reveal the intricate, fossilized internal structures of the shell. This piece serves as a remarkable sign of the complex biological designs found within the Earth's geological history, offering a tangible link to the deep past.
